About

My name is Jesse McLean and I am heading into next year as the Assistant Principal at Greystone Centennial Middle School in Parkland School Division in Spruce Grove, Alberta.

I have some specific areas of education that I am passionate about and tend to focus on in my writing and in the conversations I jump into on Twitter. Those would be Innovation and Creativity in the classroom, Educational Leadership, Education Reform and recently I have been interested in the topic of Alternative Classroom Design.

I helped bring a fabulous project to my school called Innovation Week, and now do my best to help share about the project and assist others in developing their own Innovation Weeks. To do this, I have started #iweekchat on Twitter every second Sunday of the month and I set up a website to support and share about Innovation Weeks all over the globe.

I am also a contributor to the Connected Principals site and related hashtag #cpchat.

I am married to my beautiful wife Anneliese, and we have a one year old daughter, Maggie. I am currently the Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball Team at King’s University in Edmonton, AB, Canada. In what little free time I do have I enjoy golf, movies and music.

  1. Hi Jesse,
I’m looking forward to following you on your journey. As a former Albertan, who moved to Manitoba only a year ago, I too am on a journey. I just started my first principalship after 6 years as a vice principal. Nice to meet you. Are you still twittering? I’m just beginning to develop an online presence as an administrator. You can follow me on twitter as scottjantzen.
Best of luck on this new year.

  2. Jesse,

I think we share some common thoughts and experiences. I am a new principal (13 days and the schol is still standing) and beginning my adventure with twitter and blogging.

I welcome you to my PLN and look forward to reading more of your posts.

  3. Hi Jesse,
Great post! With the growth of iPad uses in schools I am looking to build (in my spare time) an app to help teachers utilize the iPad more efficiently. Theres a lot of things I am thinking about so might be a bit too much to post here but would it be possible to talk to you over the phone or email? I would like to get your perspective on what problems need to get solved.
    Thanks,
    George.

  5. This is the first blog I have ever felt compelled to follow. As a new and young principal I am excited to see what ideas from Spruce Grove, Alberta will resonate with my own students and staff in Surkhet, Nepal. Feeling thankful and a little less alone knowing there is a global community committed to sharing their ideas with those who continue to stay curious.

It is a very special thing that two places that are so very different, can share ideas about something so integral to both.

    Warm wishes,
    Kelly Skillingstead
